Pro Architectura Award 2008
From a war-torn, dark and unknown street to Budapest's most astonishing high-street: that is what Fashion Street founder Péter Csipak have envisioned in 2001. After over seven years of hard work, Fashion Street was born and for the gorgeous and authentic reconstruction one of its buildings received the Pro Architectura Award.
Fashion Street hasn’t always been the elegant and prestigious high-street we now know. It had been neglected, dark, covered in soot and scruffy. Two World Wars and decades of careless and ignorant socialism have cast the once beautiful and historical buildings of Deák Ferenc Street into oblivion. This rise from the ashes has taken years of conscious investment and development, incredible amount of energy, persistence, will – and above all, a sublime and non-negotiable vision.
